We’re here today at the St. Regis in San Francisco where Facebook is unveiling what CEO Mark Zuckerberg is calling a “modern messaging system”. Zuckerberg recalled talking to high schoolers recently and asking them how they communicate with one another. They don’t like email. “It’s too formal,” Zuckerberg noted. So about a year ago, Facebook set out to overhaul the system. But this isn’t just about email.

“This is not an email killer. This is a messaging experience that includes email as one part of it,” Zuckerberg said. It’s all about making communication simpler. “This is the way that the future should work,” he continued.

Here are the keys to what a modern messaging system needs according to Zuckerberg:

Back in February we wrote about Facebook’s secret Project Titan — a web-based email client that we hear is unofficially referred to internally as its “Gmail killer”. Now we’ve heard from sources that this is indeed what’s coming on Monday during Facebook’s special event, alongside personal @facebook.com email addresses for users.

This isn’t a big surprise — the event invites Facebook sent out hinted strongly that the news would have something to do with its Inbox, sparking plenty of speculation that the event could be related to Titan. Our understanding is that this is more than just a UI refresh for Facebook’s existing messaging service with POP access tacked on. Rather, Facebook is building a full-fledged webmail client, and while it may only be in early stages come its launch Monday, there’s a huge amount of potential here.

Tre ha lanciato INQ Chat 3G, lo smartphone con Twitter, Facebook, Skype, Windows Live Messenger e Gmail push integrati. Lo smartphone pesa solo 122 grammi, è dotato di una tastiera Qwerty , un display Lcd da 2.4″ con risoluzione 320×240 pixel e sarà commercializzato nei colori Red o Black.

Il nuovo INQ Chat 3G sarà disponibile settimana a 199 euro o in comodato gratuito con 10 euro di ricarica al mese e 3 gigabyte di navigazione gratuita per i primi 30 giorni.

Si tratta dell’evoluzione naturale dell INQ1 che è stato testato a lungo ed è ancora in dotazione. Nonostante si trattasse di un bel gioiello, con qualche vizio di gioventù, si sentiva la mancanza di una tastiera completa e di un client Gmail, oltre che delle mappe di Google facilmente installabili.

La blackberrizzazione dell’INQ1 ha portato a realizzare un oggetto non caro che sembra tremendamente utile anche per una utenza business.

I pirati infornatici sono partiti all’attacco dei sistemi di webmail . Vittime dell’attacco 30mila indirizzi di posta elettronica di Gmail e Hotmail, le più colpite, ma anche di Yahoo, America On Line, Comcast ed Earthlink che hanno dovuto difendersi dall’attacco di pirati informatici che avrebbero rubato a piene mani login e password di  utenti.

Il fatto è stato ammesso alla Bbc da Google, che per bocca di un suo  consulente di sicurezza ha dichiarato: “Ci siamo accorti di recente di uno schema di phishing con il quale gli hackers ottenevano credenziali di accesso per indirizzi email e abbonamenti, inclusi quelli di Gmail.

Raccomanderei di cambiare la password su ogni sito sul quale fosse usata”.  Il pericolo maggiore viene dal fatto che il 40% degli utenti usano le medesime chiavi di accesso sia per la posta che per altri servizi on-line, come le banche.

Un altro consulente di sicurezza, Carole Theriault, ha correttamente dichiarato: “Potrebbere essere un segnale per indicare a Google e Microsoft la ncessità di educare gli utenti”.

We know many of you are having trouble accessing Gmail right now — we are too, and we definitely feel your pain. We don’t usually post about minor issues here (the Apps status dashboard and the Gmail Help Center are usually where this kind of information goes). Because this is impacting so many of you, we wanted to let you know we’re currently looking into the issue and hope to have more info to share here shortly. If you have IMAP or POP set up already, you should be able to access your mail that way in the meantime. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and will get Gmail back up and running as soon as possible.

E’ notte fonda, siete stanchi: l’ultima mail che avete letto pochi istanti prima proprio non vi è andata giù . Ecco allora che le dita scivolano veloci spinte dall’ira, una manciata di frasi di risposta alla “ti faccio vedere io” e poi il tasto INVIO schiacciato con rabbia.
Il mattino dopo, però, più lucidi, rivedete la posta, vi accorgete che avevate letto male la frase che vi aveva fatto reagire in quel modo e cadete nel panico totale.
Gaffe da mail, viene definita, e se anche mancano ancora precise statistiche non è poi così rara se Google, da tempo, ha creato nella gestione delle impostazioni del suo servizio di posta Gmail un apposito filtro ancora poco conosciuto.
In sintesi, il navigatore indica giorni e orari nei quali pensa potrebbe commettere errori e, al momento di inviare la mail, viene sottoposto a un test matematico (a scelta su cinque livelli di difficoltà). Se lo supera vuol dire che è ben lucido.
Altrimenti, consiglia nella nota di accompagnamento il big dei motori di ricerca, “fatti una bella dormita e riprova la mattina dopo, a mente fresca”.
O, aggiungiamo noi, preparati a un inizio di giornata ad alta temperatura anche con l’aria condizionata a tutta forza.

Google ha deciso di smetterla con la beta perpetua di molte sue applicazioni

We’re often asked why so many Google applications seem to be perpetually in beta. For example, Gmail has worn the beta tag more than five years. We realize this situation puzzles some people, particularly those who subscribe to the traditional definition of “beta” software as not being yet ready for prime time.

Ever since we launched the Google Apps suite for businesses two years ago, it’s had a service level agreement, 24/7 support, and has met or exceeded all the other standards of non-beta software. More than 1.75 million companies around the world run their business on Google Apps, including Google. We’ve come to appreciate that the beta tag just doesn’t fit for large enterprises that aren’t keen to run their business on software that sounds like it’s still in the trial phase. So we’ve focused our efforts on reaching our high bar for taking products out of beta, and all the applications in the Apps suite have now met that mark.
