I get the feeling that Google never really wanted Android tablets to exist in the first place and is just now playing catch up in response to the obvious demand. The company has another mobile operating system in the works called Google Chrome OS, which is basically an OS built around a web browser. Instead of downloaded apps, it will run web apps, although we expect there to be some offline caching capabilities which should let you do things like read eBooks or watch videos even when an internet connection isn’t handy.
Since Google is first and foremost a company that makes its revenue from web-based advertising and web-based software, it’s no surprise that Google’s vision for the future is cloud-based apps instead of downloads. Google doesn’t offer as many desktop apps as it used to, instead focusing on the cloud.

Se vuoi leggere il quotidiano sul tablet hai infinite soluzioni più o meno buone: dalle trasposizioni del cartaceo alle ricomposizioni dedicate, dal gratuito al pagamento (abbonamento, consumo per numero, consumo per pezzo…).
Non credo che sia una vera innovazione e credo che i giornali debbano rimanere su carta e che il nuovo debba essere tale e non pura finzione di facciata alla moda. L’informatica si è riprodotta nella maggior parte dei casi come dei rifacimenti ancora più vecchi del modello originale. La vera innovazione è lontano dalla massa, specie se giornalisti come l’onesto per quanto simpatico Ras Letterman.
Per l’opinione comune i Social Network fanno tutti la stessa cosa, mentre, se mai dovessero esservi ancora dubbi, Twitter si è consolidato come il canale privilegiato dell’informazione, della controinformazione, ma anche della disinformazione.Il limite è insito nei programmi per accedervi: quelli per desktop sono ancora grossolani e il web decisamente farraginoso. 140 caratteri sono pochi e leggere il link immediatamente è frequentemente impossibile o diventa spesso scomodo e lungo. La soluzione sta proprio negli iPhone, negli iPad e poi magari gli Android e i WebOS devices.

I piccoli grandi problemi di Android
By some reports, the Open Handset Alliance is in now shambles. Members such as HTC have gone off and added lots of their own software and customizations to their Android devices without contributing any code back to the Alliance. Motorola and Samsung have begun taking the same approach. The collaborative spirit is gone — if it ever existed at all. And, Google is proving to be a poor shepherd for the wolves-in-sheep’s-clothing that make up the telecoms and the handset makers in the Alliance.
As a result, we now have a situation where the U.S. telecoms are reconsolidating their power and putting customers at a disadvantage. And, their empowering factor is Android. The carriers and handset makers can do anything they want with it. Unfortunately, that now includes loading lots of their own crapware onto these Android devices, using marketing schemes that confuse buyers (see the Samsung Galaxy S), and nickle-and-diming customers with added fees to run certain apps such as tethering, GPS navigation, and mobile video.
Un Blackberry Androide ?
RIM’s new BlackBerry 6 operating system and apps platform still isn’t in the same league as its arch rivals, Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android. So it’s time for RIM to make a difficult, but important move: Stop wasting time developing its own operating system and apps platform, and switch the BlackBerry to Android, which is booming with success. The sooner, the better, before it’s too late.
As Wall Street is starting to figure out, RIM still doesn’t have a credible answer to the iPhone or Android. While RIM is still selling plenty of BlackBerry devices — thanks to international expansion and big sales at carriers — it’s not a software leader anymore. As a result, RIM is losing the high-end of the smartphone market to Google and Apple, and risks becoming a low-end, low-margin player, or worse.
RIM is the new Palm, in a sense. And don’t forget what happened to Palm, even after it miraculously created a decent new OS from scratch. (The sad twist of irony is that RIM could have bought Palm and its solid new WebOS platform, before it completely blew the deal.) But a switch to Android could at least give RIM a chance to take back some of the high-end buyers, for several reasons:

Cronache d’uso del Tabdroid: prima puntata
Iniziamo a raccontare la convivenza oramai più che mensile con il Tabroid. Per chi non avesse seguito gli acquisti del titolare di questo blog si tratta di un tablet con Android di produzione cinese acquistato in vece dei classici upad d’ordinanza.
Raccontiamo prima di tutto l’antefatto. Dopo l’uscita dell’Ipad in Italia ci si chiedeva: “Splendido, meraviglioso. Me lo compro, ma poi che me ne faccio ?”. Con questo perdurante dubbio amletico per un bel po’ abbiamo testato Ipad gentilmente concessi in prestito da amici che cercavano di rispondere o che avevano già risposto al dubbio esistenziale predetto. Dopo averci giocato e lavorato per un buon periodo ci si chiedeva davvero che potesse farne un professionista che più o meno ha in dotazione continua due laptop, due telefonini e un ipod touch ? Che fare ? Lo compro non lo compro ?
Così per curiosità si è cercato di vedere il mondo al solito dall’angolatura laterale. Navigando e navigando in rete l’unico fenomeno serio alternativo al tablet Ipad è dato da una generazione ancora non pienamente espressa di tablet dotati di Android. Ce ne sono di noti e conosciuti dal Dell Streak allo JooJoo. Poi esiste una galassia apparentemente improbabile di tavolette cinesi realizzate da aziende sconosciute (un po’ quello che era qualche anno fa HTC). Il futuro dei tablet passerà attraverso Ipad, un’”Audi informatica” o attraverso tante “Punto informatiche” ovvero tablet con costo prestazioni – inferiori. La risposta ai posteri. Per ora notiamo solo che è più facile che il mercato per crescere quantitativamente trovi uno sbocco verso il basso che verso l’alto. Intanto un amico o un’azienda che ti presti un Ipad anche per giorni lo trovi sempre.
